What is Hysteria? Hysteria is a very complex phenomenon and can be defined as the state of both mental and neurotic disorder arising from intense anxiety. Its a type of violent emotional outbreaks characterized by a lack of control over acts and emotions. It occurs mostly between the ages of 15 and 25. Following are the main causes of hysteria: Depression Traumatism Sexual repression Prolonged sickness Anxiety Symptoms of Hysteria The main symptoms of hysteria are nervousness, seductive behavior, intolerance, insomnia, shortness of breath, irritability, capriciousness, and irritability. During fits, a patient becomes hyper-emotional. Accompanied by sudden seizures, patients suffer from loss of consciousness Feelings of unreality or detachment accompanied by emotional excitability, such as fear or panic. Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder and is characterized by abnormal social behavior, delusions, and hallucinations. The difficulty with concentration and memory makes it worse for the affected patient. Depression, suspiciousness or hostility, expressionless gaze, difficulty sleeping, lack of personal hygiene, or irrational beliefs are major indicators of Schizophrenia. Bipolar Disorder 

Once known as manic depression, it is a mental disorder that causes periods of depression and periods of abnormally elevated mood or mania. In this condition, patient moods can swing from one extreme to another. Mood stabilizer is the mainstay of treatment in this condition. Most important point is that the treatment has to continue for a very long period of time so that further episodes can be avoided.

Dementia 

Dementia is associated with the decline in memory or other thinking skills affecting his/ her ability to perform everyday activities. Damage to brain cells is often argued as the reason for dementia. Thyroid problems and vitamin deficiencies are sighted as some of the causes of dementia.

Anxiety: Anxiety can be best described as a syndrome that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. It affects the mental balance of a person and can cause physical symptoms. People suffering from anxiety may feel intense fear or phobia of a specific object or situation, such as heights or flying. People suffering from anxiety suffer from state of uneasiness, apprehension. Nausea and dizziness further complicate the issue. Chest pain, headaches and shortness of breath are other indicators of anxiety.

Mania

Mania is a mental illness characterized by the mood disorder. It is marked by great excitement or euphoria, delusions, and overactivity. Also known as the manic syndrome or bipolar disorder it's mental disorders, the symptoms can be very disabling Symptoms of Mania Mood changes characterized by the elevated or expansive mood to sudden shifts to extreme irritability, hostility, or even anger. Sex drive also increases which often lead individuals with bipolar disorder toward their own sexual extremes, at least during manic episodes. During a mood swing, a person can become violent and cant concentrate on his actions. His behavior is marked by incoherent speech with markedly increased energy. Impaired Judgment followed by inappropriate humor and brash behavior. He suddenly starts spending more and callously. Shops more on latest fashionable wear. Loss of sleep accompanied by sleeping disorder. Loss of appetite followed by illness.

Migraine

Migraine: Migraine is a complex condition characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smell are some of the common symptoms associated with the disease.
 Hysteria

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

This long-lasting disorder leads to uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). It involves unwanted and disturbing thoughts called obsessions causing feelings of anxiety or unease. A compulsion or urge to do particular thing repeatedly such as handwashing, counting, checking or cleaning may be present, and not performing them increases anxiety.

Substance Abuse

Dependency on alcohol and intoxicants. Habitual drinker with strong need, or compulsion to drink. Irractic and violent behaviors if unable to intake alcohol. Occupational problems, social and legal issues are present. Persistant urge to look for substance being used takes away the normal routine of the pt. Lack of concentration, unable to think positively, sadness, weakness, weight loss, high blood pressure, stomach pain, liver or kidney damage, infertility may result.
